Can my child play soccer in Region 1079?
We accept any and all children possible from age 4 through 18 depending on their birth year. Since we are a 100% volunteer region we have a limited number of players we can accept. The more coaches that we have sign up the better the chance that everyone plays. We do our best to allow as many children as possible, but that can only happen with your help. We always need additional coaches and referees for each season. The more assistance offered, the more children that can play in a fun, fair, and safe environment. Please sign up to be a referee or coach. We offer comprehensive training for beginning coaches and referees.
What is included with the fees to play soccer in Region 1079?

The uniform (jersey, socks and shorts)
Medal or trophy
Player insurance
A subscription to National "Soccer Now" magazine
Registers each child with our national office
Supports field cost, light cost, referee training, field supplies, City of Mesa fees, etc.
What should we (the parents / guardians) supply?
Shin guards (Mandatory for both practice and all games, they must be worn inside the socks.)
Shoes

Shoes can be tennis shoes or they may have cleats, but not Baseball Cleats (those with a toe cleat.)

When and where will games be played?
Schedules will be posted as soon as possible. Games start in September and end in early November. Typically all games will be at Red Mountain Soccer Complex, 905 North Sunvalley Blvd, Mesa, AZ 85207. We may have the opportunity to play with another AYSO league. You will receive the schedule at the beginning of the season.
When are practices?
For all age groups, the coach shall decide when and where to hold practices. Typically, there are one to two practices each week (depending on coach availability) and we try to group these teams as close to your home as possible.
Various teams can select to hold practices at the Red Mountain Soccer Complex, 905 North Sunvalley Blvd, Mesa, AZ 85207 Mondays through Thursdays 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm.
Your coach will inform you of what two days and time slot they have chosen.
What are divisions and what do they mean?
The divisions are defined by the players age group.
The "U" means Under.
U6 - Under 6
U8 - Under 8
U10 - Under 10
U12- Under 12
U14 - Under 14
U16 - Under 16
U19 - Under 19
For example, U10 division is comprised of players whose ages are under 10 as of the year of registration (8 and 9 year olds).
Is my child allowed to play "down" a division?
Under no circumstances will players be able to "play down" a division (i.e. a child that turns 12 on December 31st of the registration year must play in the 14U bracket). A child may "play up" with the approval of the Regional Commissioner, however these are very rare circumstances and are handled on a case by case basis.
What division will my child play in?
The easiest way is to take the year (example, 2024) and subtract the birthyear (example, 2014)
2024-2014=10
Your child will play in U12.
What ball size does my player need?
Ball sizes increase with the players age and are defined by the division the player is in.
Division | Ball Size |
14/ 16U U | 5 |
10U and 12U | 4 |
6U and 8U | 3 |
When will my player's uniform arrive?
Uniforms are given to the coach, and are usually handed out at practice. The uniform is not returned at the end of the season. The player keeps his / her uniform. Players must wear shin guards at practices and in the games.
